Dementia Research Studies

Dr. Susan Hunter, School of Physical Therapy, Western University
2019 – ongoing

Background and Participants

Dr. Hunter received a grant to develop a new assessment scale to evaluate the safe use of walkers in people with dementia. McCormick assisted by organizing focus groups of registered health professionals and staff participants from both the home and the day program to give input into the items on the scale and recruited ten day program clients with walkers to do basic tasks, e,g., sit-to-stand, stand-to-sit, walk. These activities were videotaped and the tapes were sent to practitioners to test and evaluate the newly developed assessment tool.

Findings

The data collection from the healthcare professionals reviewing the videos has finished and data analysis is underway.
