Dementia Research Studies

Amer Burhan, Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Western University
2019 – ongoing

There is a wide variation in how agitation and aggression are treated in patients with dementia, and there is often a problem of polypharmacy. This study reviews an integrated care pathway for managing agitation and aggression beyond standard care practices.

Background

Dr. Burhan (co-investigator and London site lead) and his group have received funding to compare an integrated care pathway for managing agitation and aggression versus usual care. Participants will be recruited from inpatient and long-term care facilities. Recruitment at McCormick Home for 20 participants is underway.
